Backup Everything to Google

Google will release Backup and Sync on June 28, 2017. This is the progeny of Google Drive. Google Drive currently only backups up or synchronizes one folder per user to the Google universe. Backup and Sync will allow multiple folders, up to the entire user home folder/directory, to be synchronized with Google servers.

Google is cautioning that Backup and Sync is intended for their consumer market. For business users, they should continue using Google drive until the enterprise-grade Drive File Stream is available later this year. Drive File Stream will be available to all G Suite Basic, Business, Enterprise, Education, and Nonprofit domains.

I consider this a game-changer. For most organizations, there is no longer the need to have a 3rd-party Internet-based backup service. With G Suite Business (and for some clients, Enterprise), this solves the off-site backup problem with a tool you already are using–Google!
