When I started in the IT field (31 years back), I created a computer animation company. One of the first to use Macintosh systems. My Macs cost around $8K-$10K (in 1987 dollars). This was a bargain in a few ways.
First, the competing systems started at $50K. My systems were faster.
These blazing (for their time) machines could render 3D easily 10x faster than stock Mac’s. That let me take on 10X more work, and earn substantially more more money - than if I was using lower-priced units.
When the right tool allows you to do something different, faster, or more economically, it is rarely a rip-off.
